Our BTO queue no = 31 ! How did we up our chances?

We were extremely fortunate (thank heavens) to get a queue number of 31 when we first balloted for our BTO project.

Moreover it was for a 5-room flat! 🙏🏻 (we were really very thankful!!)

Many of our friends were very surprised at our queue number too and wanted us to share with them some tips on how did we manage to increase our chances! Hence, I thought that it might be worth sharing this with our fellow readers too and honestly hope these would help you in some way or another:

What we did:

✅ We optimised the Married Child Priority Scheme and applied for a BTO project that is near his parents! It has to be within 4km and from what I have gathered , up to 30% of the units will be allocated to first timers - so we were extremely hopeful!

✅ We also went for a BTO project in a non- mature estate. It was a bit more inconvenient back then (it’s better now!) when we applied for it but we wanted to be away from the crowded areas of Singapore, so we were keen on this project! If you can, search for the future govt plans online to see if the future improvements suit you and your partner!

✅ Our friends taught us this! They recommended not to apply straight away but try to stalk the number of applicants throughout the exercise period (HDB website) and if the number of applicants is not crazily high, apply it nearing the end !

✅ It’s our first time applying for a BTO, which I understood that we have a higher chance as well! Hence we wanted to make sure our first application was “water tight”!

Other considerations that you might want to consider when applying for a BTO (that I wasn’t able to utilise then):

▪️ Stay with your parents by including them in your application (only if it’s applicable - please check the ever changing rules on owning a house in SG before diving straight into this !)

▪️First timers expecting a child !

▪️Apply the same BTO project with your parents under the MGPS scheme!
