Slow vs. Fast Shutterspeed Comparison

A little while back, I made a post on why tossing in some slow shutter speed can add a cool twist to your photos. Now, let's dig into the fast versus slow shutter speed showdown to really see what each one brings to the table.

Take the first snap with the biker, for instance. He's cruising, no doubt. But, I snapped that pic at a 1/3200 shutter speed. What happened? The guy looks like he hit pause. The background doesn't have motion blur, and the wheels aren't blurring in motion. Now, that might be the vibe you're after. But, if you want that "whoosh" effect, you'd want to ease up on the shutter speed.

Enter example two. This one i shot at a 1/60 shutter speed. I went with the flow of the moving subject. Slower shutter plus panning equals a shot that gives way more movement. More blur in the background, wheels looking like they're in a spin-off. Suddenly, your pic feels like a high-speed adventure, even if your subject isn't setting any speed records.
