Hey everyone, if you've ever found yourself dreading the thought of hitting the gym or breaking a sweat, you're not alone. I used to be right there with you, struggling to enjoy exercise for most of my life. However, my perspective on fitness changed during the lockdown, and I've found myself feeling healthier and happier ever since.

Let me share my experiences and thoughts as I attempt to rekindle my fitness routine in 2024. Towards the end of 2023, I fell off the fitness wagon pretty hard and had been avoiding the gym like the plague. However, this week, I finally mustered the courage to return, and I'm genuinely happy I did.

Growing up, exercise wasn't something I fully enjoyed. Attempts at hitting the gym or trying various classes like crossfit were met with disdain. I'd sign up for memberships only to let them expire after a couple of classes because the dread of working out was too much to bear. The gym itself induced anxiety, as I felt helpless and clueless about using the machines.

Trying something new is never easy, and that's why I highly recommend finding an exercise buddy. Working out with a friend makes the experience more enjoyable, less lonely, and reduces anxiety. My exercise buddy helped me build confidence in my abilities, and after a few weeks, I found myself booking and attending classes solo.

In 2020, I stumbled upon spinning, and it changed my perspective entirely. I discovered that my aversion to exercise was more about doing the wrong type of sport. Spin class made working out fun for me, allowing me to enjoy cardio and tap into my surprisingly good stamina. The key, I realized, is finding a workout you enjoy or, at the very least, hate the least. This way, you're more likely to stick to a routine.

While I acknowledge that not every workout will be enjoyable, there are days when I have to drag myself out of bed. However, understanding what you enjoy or dislike the least can make a significant difference in maintaining a consistent routine. Through spinning, I met new people and tried different exercises, leading me to join a fitness community, like the one offered by BFT membership. Never did I imagine becoming one of the "gym people," but the class setting made it less intimidating.

It's crucial to remember that it's okay to take breaks and start again. Reestablishing a workout routine after a hiatus can be challenging, whether due to travel, a busy schedule, or sheer laziness. The key is understanding that it's okay to start from scratch and that everyone is on their unique fitness journey. Be kind to yourself, stay consistent, and good luck on your wellness and health journey!
