Is your dog truly happy?

A happy dog - is a happy life for everyone involved. What does it take to have a happy dog though?

(Most) dogs are athletes. So if you are taking them on walking or playing fetch they are just going to get better, faster and stronger (I hope you sang that in your head).

The key to a happy dog is fulfillment.

A fulfilled dog needs a few things.

1. Play time - and I mean engaged, your focus is on then play time. This doesn’t have to be a ton of time either, but your engagement is key here.

2. Exercise - walks, fetch, whatever your activity is I suggest that they get at least 60 minutes broken into 2 sessions. Some dogs need less, some need more. But that’s a great starting point!

3. Brain work - now this is the most important one in my opinion and it can be brought into the other 2 categories in adding structure. If you are walking, work on their leash skills, their skills around other people and dogs, facing the scary things, learning to be calm on the leash. If you are playing fetch, build in a release word, practice their recall, use place work.

I also suggest that you set aside some time for training that will help you build that into every day activities.

The fastest way to exhaust a dog is through using their brains!
