MY TRANSITION FROM COLLEGE TO POST GRAD

It’s been a year since I graduated from college, and a year of being an adult in the real world. Post-grad life can be different, maybe even tough for some. As someone who’s been through that transition, I’d like to share a few of my thoughts.

👨‍👩‍👧 Don’t forget to spend time with family. In college, all I wanted was to get away from my parents. Now, I wish I could spend more time with them. You’re not the only one getting older, they are too!

❤️ Relationships are more serious now. Dating in college and dating now feels very different (at least for me). My boyfriend and I live across the country from each other, and of course, we eventually want to live with each other. That means talking more about our careers, our finances, and our future plan.

👯‍♀️ Be prepared to drift away from your friends. There are real friends, and friends I call proximity friends. These are people you hang out with because you live on a college campus together, but never speak to again when you graduate. Moving to a new city, I lost touch with a lot of my old friends, but made a lot of new ones too.

🏡 You will spend a lot more time making your home feel like a home. In college, I never bothered to decorate my apartment because I knew I would leave. Now that I’m in New York, I’ve fulfilled all my apartment dreams. I also work from home, so I wanted my home to feel cozy and comfortable.

✈️ Post-grad life means more freedom and time to travel. I work remote which means I can quite literally work from anywhere. Having a full time job also means that I have way more money to spend on travel.
