Kyoto Japan Guide: Wearing A Kimono in Winter? 🥶❄️

I honestly thought I would be freezing outside considering the temperatures were still single-digit but it was alright 🫶🏼 I got my kimono rental from Okamoto and it was such a smooth experience throughout the day! Here's how it went:

📍 getting there

Kyoto is a lot easier to get around by taxi, even the locals take the cab everywhere (still cheaper than hopping the train!) take the taxi to kiyomizudera and once you hop off, walk uphill until you see the okamoto entrance on your left!

👘 a plethora of kimono designs

you will be spoiled for choice when you pick out your kimono! you'll be tasked to pick out your inner robe, the kimono, an obi, an obi sash, as well as a bag to go with your fit.

my mum and i picked the nagoya obi because I love how it looked more traditional and it allows you to have a wider variety of traditional kimono designs compared to the modern ones!

👱🏼‍♀️ hairstyles

you can pick from selection of hairstyles for $7 or have any hairstyle you want (you can show picture reference) for a $3 top-up!

📸 where to take pics

apart from kiyomizudera, we walked around ninenzaka, the traditional area of the town + that's where Starbucks Ninenzaka is! I also went to a small temple's museum to have a look before returning my kimono by 6pm!

✨ tips

do make sure you wear heattech ultra so you won't suffer so much without your layers 🥹🫶🏼

I think roaming around kyoto streets with a kimono is a must-try at least once! Not only you can appreciate kyoto's traditional buildings and temples, you can also appreciate the kimono's beauty and function for keeping you warm! ❤️
