Neighbours from Hell: The Aircon Nightmare

Moving into a new home should be an exciting experience, but for us, it has turned into a nightmare thanks to our neighbours. Here’s our story:

Our downstairs neighbours have a habit of turning their air conditioning to very low temperatures, causing severe condensation on our floors. It’s so bad that if we place a tissue on the floor, it gets soaked. This constant moisture has led to mould growth, which is not only damaging our brand-new vinyl flooring and carpentry but may pose serious health risks.

We are deeply worried about the potential losses we might suffer if the mould continues to spread, and we need to replace our flooring and furniture. More importantly, the health implications of mould exposure are alarming. Mould can cause respiratory issues, allergies, and other health problems, which is a major concern for us since I am asthmatic.

We tried speaking to our neighbours about the problem, hoping for a reasonable discussion. Unfortunately, we were met with a barrage of vulgarities, making it clear that they are not willing to cooperate.

Here are some steps we’re considering to address this issue:

Documentation: We’re keeping a record of the condensation and mould growth. This will be useful if we need to escalate the issue.

Involving Authorities: Considering contacting HDB to help resolve the conflict. We had reached out to the Town Council, but they referred us to HDB.

Professional Advice: Consulting with a mould remediation expert to understand the extent of the damage and get advice on how to mitigate it.

Legal Action: If the situation doesn’t improve, we might need to explore legal options to protect our property and health.
