why i love the NYC Marathon

Am I a runner? No. Does the marathon severely inconvenience me when I’m trying to get anywhere that day? Of course. But I wholeheartedly love marathon day anyways.

Why?

Because it’s truly the most incredible spectacle of humanity I have ever seen. Strangers cheering for strangers for 26.2 miles, friends and lovers cheering on runners with signs of their faces and telling them there’s “espresso martinis at the finish line”. Children and adults from all over this 9 million person city, in all 5 boroughs, enjoying ringing cow bells, shouting encouragement, and high-fiving passersby — what’s better than that?

It’s just such a wholesome day every year.

p.s. if you’re in nyc during the marathon, companies give out goodies along the route to spectators. i’ve got gift cards, beer, fresh pressed juice, popsicles, and more!
