I’m sure many of y’all are not unfamiliar with Merci Marcel, which blew up some time back on Tiktok! I’ve always wanted to try it last time but didn’t get a chance to since they’re usually fully booked during peak hours. This time, I finally get the chance to celebrate my girlfriend’s bday and we decided to treat her to French cuisine at Merci Marcel. 😋
📍 Merci Marcel has 3 outlets across the island and I chose to visit the Orchard branch since it’s more central and accessible for everyone. The other two outlets are at Tiong Bahru and Club Street (Chinatown). Upon entering the store, I felt that I was teleported to Paris and Bali all at once. 🤣 The interior was cosy and elegant
👉🏻 What we ordered:
🥩 Grain-fed Angus Beef ($32)
This was pretty disappointing as the beef wasn’t as tender as I imagined. The tendon parts were quite a fair bit too which I didn’t really enjoy. I think you can give this a miss and go for other mains instead! 🥴
🐙 Pan Seared Squid ($29)
The squid was nothing special, though it was nicely charred but felt a bit lacking without a flavourful sauce. It was nicely cooked though, as every bite had a good chew to it. 🤪
🍝 Ravioles de Royans [L] ($32)
This was the best dish out of the three for me. I love the creamy sauce and it wasn’t overly jelak for me. We ordered the large portion for three of us to share and it was just nice. 👍🏻
Overall, I feel like the food didn’t really match up to the hype and expectations. I would say I’m mostly paying for the vibes and probably wouldn’t really head back there again… 🥲
