I’m sure this VIRAL cafe, PAARU has appeared all over your feed on Lemon8, IG and Tiktok by now. So is it really worth the hype?

Being such a fan of Punch and Gather, paying Paaru a visit seems like a no-brainer, being the sister cafe of the reputable two.

The quaint cafe sports a Japanese Wabi Sabi interior, with an open kitchen, main area and tea room. I really appreciate the attention to details when it comes to decorating the space, such as the use of paper pendant lamps, the burning of incense and playing of Japanese soundtrack.

Despite the long queue, the service was pretty good. Everyone waiting in line was offered a cup of iced brewed green tea on top of the water jugs found outside.

🍴 What I’ve ordered:

1. Scrambled eggs on shokupan with fat cut bacon

If you’re a fan of Ronin/Punch’s scrambled eggs then you’re in for a treat. 🤤 I’m not usually a fan of bacon, but man this fat cut bacon hits hard! The only thing I would change about this dish is for the shokupan to be more fragrant (slathered with butter) instead of being a literal blank slate.

2. Shokupan French Toast

Oooff the cream and syrup on this one packs a punch! Packed with just the right amount of sweetness, it’s the perfect treat for someone with a sweet tooth! However, it can get a little heavy after a few bites, and is probably better for sharing.

3. Iced white

Topped with what seemed like cream, the iced white comes in a thicker note in terms of texture. Nothing less of what you would expect in an iced white, however I do wish it was more aromatic.

Tips:

✨ Visit at odd hours to avoid the crowd (e.g weekends over brunch or tea time)

✨ Treat yourself to some pastries from the Paaru bakery a couple of units down (towards the other end of the floor) so that you don’t starve yourself while waiting. The Financiers and Madeleines are sooo tasty and only retailing at $2 per piece. 🤭

✨ The cafe is a little difficult to locate. To save yourself from circling around the area, upon entering the main entrance, turn left and walk all the way straight till you see a toilet sign, turn right, by which you will notice crates at the waiting area on your left, where the cafe is tucked neatly behind.

🌟 Overall Rating: 4.2/5

I will say that the place is very nicely done and you’re getting a pretty good meal out of an affordable price point. However, I would recommend waiting for the crowd to die down (if you don’t want to be queuing out in the heat for an hour’s time🥵) It’s worth the visit, but do it at your own convenience. ✨

💸 Damage done: $45 (inclusive of GST & service charge)

📍 Location: 195 Pearl’s Hill Terrace, #01-61
