Ace your internships with Excel part 3

Today, I’ll be sharing on concatenate function. This is really helpful when you have a few columns to join together. You don’t want to manually type them, so this formula is super helpful.

1. Concatenate

In the example in slide 2, I want to join the first name in column A & surname in column B to get the full names of people in column C. Note that the formula will join without spacing, so we want to add the spacing in the concatenate formula as well like this: =CONCATENATE(First name cell, “ “, Last name cell). If you need to add other text instead of space you may add them with the quotation mark.

2. Split text (Opposite of concatenate)

One method is to use the Text to Column function under the data tab. I’ve shown the steps in slide 3. So this is a no formula method and works pretty well. Just that if you do want to retain the original cell, duplicate the column!
