I did a part 1 covering IF, SUMIF & Conditional Formatting here

In part 2 I was hoping to share on a formula useful if you want to match a value and return a value. Hence, I wanted to share on VLOOKUP.

There are other match formulas like XLOOKUP, INDEXMATCH as well.

VLOOKUP is really handy if you’re looking to match a specific value in a cell found in another column and return the value in any column on it’s right.

Slide 2

In this example, I have a list of students’ names and their grades in column A & B. Then I have a small list of names whose results I want to see in column D. So if my list was very long, it would be very hard to comb through each row to find their names. But we can use VLOOKUP!

Slide 3

So what I need to use is =VLOOKUP(input the cell with name I want to search, range of current list to find from + list adjacent to if with return value of interest, column number of the return value, FALSE for exact match).

Note: we must ensure the column in which you want to match the value with is always infront of the return value. Also, you can use TRUE for approximate match. Column number of return value must be counted from number of columns starting from column to match (in this case 2).

✍️ Do save this and remember to check out part 1. Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions on excel 😀
