what better way to cap off a long day than with a delicious bbq meal? that's exactly what my family and i did, and spoiler alert: you don't have to go all the way to tanjong pagar to find that long stretch of korean bbq restaurants π
located just at the heart of serangoon's nex mall, seorae bbq is uniquely known for its signature korean galmaegisal (pork skirt) and offers a variety of grill and jjigae (stew) delightsπ€€ while i haven't visited the other outlets, i'm pleased with how the nex outlet appears! from its modern and chic design to its spacious layout, this outlet is ideal for hosting large or small gatherings! π€©
OUR ORDER π
1οΈβ£ ultimate pork set
β’ perfect for 2 - 3 pax
β’ consists of galmaegisal (pork skirt), black pork samgyeobsal (pork belly), hangjeongsal (pork jowl), yangnyeom moksal (pork collar), sundubu jjigae with rice (spicy tofu stew), japchae (stir-fried noodles with pork)
2οΈβ£ pork king set
β’ perfect for 3 - 5 pax
β’ consists of all the pork meat mentioned in ultimate pork set + samgyeobsal kkochi platter (pork skewers), hameul pajeon (korean pancake), kimchi jjigae with rice (spicy kimchi stew)
3οΈβ£ warm yuzu tea
OUR REVIEW πͺ
overall, i feel the pork meats were well prepared and marinated! When grilled, it imparts a very tender texture while remaining flavorful and juicy, making you crave it even more! i highly recommend the galmaegisal (pork skirt), especially since it's hard to find in most korean bbq joints in singapore ππ» just a few things thing to note is that
1) it might get abit jelak (heavily bloated feeling ish?) from continuously consuming the meat so it's best to pair it with a drink (like the warm yuzu tea i had) or a stew!
2) remember to keep flipping the meat at appropriate times to prevent it from getting burnt π₯²
for the other dishes:
β’ kimchi jjigae: βββ.5 β taste wise, it's more sour than spicy so if ure not into sour stuff, i'll suggest getting the next stew!
β’ sundubu jjigae (spicy tofu stew): ββββ β SO GOOD! it tastes really close to the sundubu stews i had in korea and very appetising!
β’ hameul pajeon (korean pancake): ββββ β this is literally the dish that reminds me of wang dae bak... unlike usual pancakes, this one is pretty thick and filled with lots of ingredients YET very chewy and crispy at the same time! as a pancake lover, i am satisfied! π
β’ japchae (stir-fried noodles with pork): ββββ β love it! it has the right amount of texture, not too dry and not too moist! though the portion is small, it's so good that i almost wanted to order another plate of itπ€
β’ warm yuzu tea: βββ.5 β tbh i can't tell if it's yuzu tea because it taste like water for meπ€£ but you'll definitely need this to clear your palette after eating all the greasy meat soooo yes !!
VERDICT π€
if you're looking for a convenient place to gather all of your friends, family, and so on for a bbq session, seorae bbq is a must-visit! while it is not comparable to some of my favorite korean bbq restaurants, such as wang dae bak and hansang, i believe this restaurant is one of the best options in times like these! βΊοΈ
