Getting your first apartment

Getting your first apartment can be hard, but it’s not impossible. The hardest part will be finding your perfect apartment. After that, everything is smooth.

A little note before we get into this. I would recommend, if you still live with your parents, asking your parents to add you to their lease. This will allow you to build renters history which can aid in getting an apartment.

Step 1: Getting a job

Getting a job is the number 1 step to getting an apartment. Once you have a decent paying job secured, you’re gonna want to start saving and/or buying little stuff for your apartment. You’ll want to save at least 3 times the rent. While it may not be required to have 3 times the rent, it will allow you to have cushion for your expenses (electricity, internet, water, streaming services, food, deposit, pets if you have any, and RENT). You’re also gonna wanna work work work. They’re gonna be looking for qualified applicants.

Step 2: Find an area and search

Open your Google or Apple Maps and start searching in your desired area. Start off looking at the reviews for the apartments and filter them to most recent, then lowest, and then highest. You’re looking for how well management works, pictures left in reviews, and how the quality of the apartments are. Once you do that then look at the apartments website for rent prices, amenities, apartment availability, and requirements to lease. If they’re what you’re looking for then you’ve found your desired apartment. (After this schedule a tour to look at the area)

Step 3: Apply!

Remember that job you got? This is where they’re gonna start taking and looking at your money. Apartments will require you to make an account and then pay an application in order for them to take you into mind. Theyll ask you for some personal info, job info, paystubs, and for renters history. Once you apply, you’ll have to pay the waiting game. They’ll get back to you within a few days to let you know if you got accepted or not.
