As part of our kitchen appliances, we also got our washer as the first batch of stuff for the home.

The washer is fairly easy to choose for us because we’ve experienced top load and front load washers before and have had great experiences with LG so far. My mother’s LG top load lasted her for more than 10 years of daily usage! (Although from what I’ve heard these days most appliances don’t last longer than 3-4 years hurhur…)

Our key considerations:

- top VS front load

- water consumption

- capacity

- durability

As for Drying function, we were quite clear about not needing a separate dryer as we prefer naturally / sun dried clothes. Of course it’s hard to get sun into the service yard of BTO’s these days so that’s where Steigen comes in for us. But we wanted a 2 in 1 washer that can dry clothes if needed in an emergency like multiple days or weeks of rain.

One of the biggest concerns was water consumption so we went with the max 4 ticks and this was no questions asked. Much as the top load can handle more capacity and is cheaper, the water consumption is quite bad. We also didn’t like bending over a deep washer to get clothes out, it’s quite literally back breaking.

Eventually our choice is the LG 10/6kg washer / dryer combination. It can be controlled via the LG app too so it’ll be helpful if we load a wash and go out, and have to pause suddenly because we have to go home later etc. to prevent washed clothes from smelling if we can’t come back to hang it in time. Or we could run a dryer function if needed!

As a bonus there’s a black colour version of the washer so we love it. It’s so sleek 🤩

On capacity:

As a couple, we were using a 8kg washer for a few years. It worked fine but felt a little small if we were only doing laundry once or twice a week. So for our bto we decided to go for 10kg because it’ll also be easier to fit bedsheets and blankets! Take note of this if it’s your first time buying a washer!
