Hit my $1m goal!

At my age, I may be an average person who has achieved this goal comparing to many who have already achieved at a much younger age! Congrats to all who have done it! 👏🏻

I’m not a financial advisor here. I’m a prudent investor and down to earth hard worker 😁 Here to share my story if you want to hit your $1m goal too.

I started working part time after finishing O levels. I worked various jobs such as giving tuition, retail sales assistant, card promoter and admin assistant while taking my diploma in Banking & Finance in Ngee Ann Poly and SIM UOL Degree in Accounting & Finance. After graduating, I held a job as an accountant for 2 years in a MNC company but my salary was stagnant at $2.4K throughout. Someone shared with me “Your boss determine your potential in the company. And what your boss is getting now is what you will be getting 20 or 30 years down the road.”

I knew my boss’s salary. She was earning $5.5k after working almost 25 years for the same company. I asked myself if this is what I wanted? The answer is no. I had to look for opportunities to head to where I want. If your route is to earn $10k a month, you have to do what it takes and not take a $4k job expecting to have a $10k income. You can have a $4k job but you need to know where to increase an additional $6k income to meet your $10k monthly goal.

I decided to start my own biz at 24 years old. It was not an easy decision at that time, as we had plans to get married. I had a very supportive partner who encouraged me to be an entrepreneur. With zero salary and a few k savings, I started to learn how to run events and did my 1st pushcart at my former school, SIM. I learned to do marketing and sell products which I was confident in mainly because I have used them. I began to build up a handful customers who like my products and some of them became repeated customers and we became friends too.

After which, I expanded my business into collaboration of health screening events and also corporate events to work with big firms. There, I started training my team and guiding them how to run the show like I did. My income started to grow significantly definitely doubling and tripling more than what I earned previously. We also did some investments with the money we earned.

I also started building my family and over the years, we became a family of 5. Our monthly expenses hit 5 figure every month so I always joked if I don’t have 3 kids, perhaps we could have reached our $1m goal faster 😄

Remember, to reach your financial goal faster, you need to increase your income and put the “extra cash” into investments. Before you ask what to invest in, think about how to get their extra cash every monthly first. Having a significant extra $1k+ every month can reap you $15k a year to bring you for a good holiday trip too. Always plan ahead and never be just contented working 9-6.
