hey zesties!πŸ‹ I'm pretty sure we have all heard "all schools are the same" at one point in our lives before

this is going to be based on my experience !!

to start off, I was from an "elite" primary school, which definitely gave me many insights and exposure. With that said, I was basically playing my entire primary school life and flunked my psle... (I barely made it to express) Needless to say, I went to a neighbourhood school that was pretty 😬 and notorious...

1st: facilities

heavy take on this, but definitely "elite schools" have better facilities compared to neighbourhood schools. My secondary school had no lifts... and pretty much everything was run down. When we bring this up to school leaders, they alw say that there's no need to change n how privilege we are to have all these, but honestly, they just don't have the budget to do so...

As compared to an "elite" school, their facilities are usually in a wayy better condition. one key example is ri πŸ’€πŸ’€

πŸ’€ (obviously right) they have a whole lap pool ???!!! st nicks(if im not wrong!) and catholic high have a whole running lap (not even like 2 laps kind but rather 6...)

2. resources + opportunity

based on my experience, "elite" schools definitely have more resources and opportunities for us students (eg, overseas exchange, competitions) as compared to neighbourhood schools. I think a very known example is ri n hci (jc) they are known for being feeder schools for students who want to go us/uk uni (ucla, harvard, oxford, cambridge ) as compared to a "neighbourhood" jc like jp or yi. In addition, notes are also another factor. Honestly, this also kind of depends on your teacher, but "elite" schools usually have more detailed notes compared to "neighbourhood" ones based on my experience with my friends' notes.

3. culture & environment

definitely "elite" schools culture is completely different from "neighbourhood" schools. Back in primary, I remember everyone being stressed and burned out. Teachers are also constantly pushing us and telling us how psle was such a big deal if we want to go to a decent secondary school n have a good school life ahead (which is honestly kind of messed up telling that to a 12 yr old 😢😢😢) whereas in a neighbourhood one since most of them are not that academically inclined, they just expect a pass and that will honestly do the trick. although there are teachers who still put pressure on some students, the environment is much more chill as most of them simply can't be bothered. if you simply can't perform well under pressure, then maybe a neighbourhood school would be for you

to all those psle n o lvl/ n lvl students here's a few points for you to consider! these are all my thoughts n experience from what I've been thru n what my friends have told me. If you have other points, do share below too!! All the best to all those taking their national exams!!🩷🩷🩷 #sgschool #sgstudent #exams #schools #singapore
