i love mapo tofu! Imagine silky tofu combined with minced pork in a spicy numbing sauce served over piping hot white rice on a cold weather day to warm your soul! it just hits the spot everytime 🤤
There is actually a shop specially selling ma po tofu with rice outside and it costs about SGD$13! At home, it definitely costs less than $10!
This mapo tofu dish is easy and made with a few ingredients only! I think the main highlight here is the chilli bean sauce and the Lao gan ma sauce combined! Cooking at home, we can tailor this spicy kick to our liking!
ingredients:
minced chicken/pork
minced garlic
tofu (suitable for frying)
chilli bean sauce
Lao ga ma chilli crisps
secret ingredient powder
corn starch slurry
recipe:
stir fry minced pork with minced garlic til half cooked
add in desired amount of chilli bean, lao gan la and secret ingredient powder and fry with pork.
add in water or soup stock just to cover the meat and cook til boiling.
add in silken tofu and turn gently to avoid breaking the tofu.
once boiling, add corn starch slurry to thicken up the sauce if needed.
garnish and serve!

the secret ingredient is a taste powder that an IG account introduced to me and from then on, I add it in when cooking mapo tofu. it just ups the spicy and taste level! you can buy this powder from sheng shiong! Try it!
