CONGRATZ ON STARTING YOUR NEW HOME OWNERSHIP JOURNEY (and also good luck for the upcoming challenges)

This is probably the happiest sms we have ever received!! I remember jumping for joy and we immediately texted our family and friends to share the good news 🥳

However, the excitement died down soon after as we realised that there were ALOT of documents to prepare for the key collection. Honestly, we felt a little overwhelmed as it was our first time doing this. Attached a checklist for you guys above!

1️⃣ READ THE HDB EMAIL VERY THOROUGHLY

All the documents required will be listed in that email. Make sure to follow all the instructions step by step as written. We had to read through the lengthy email multiple times to ensure that we've got everything ready.

2️⃣ APPLY LEAVE FOR THE APPT DATE

Even though the key collection process would only take 30-60min (including waiting time), I would recommend taking the whole day off to account for delays/unforseen issues. I don't think you would want to wait any longer to visit your new home as well, so take the day off and head straight to your unit right after! 🏠

3️⃣ PREPARE FOR DEFECTS CHECK

For BTOs, there is a 1-year Defects Liability Period where your estate's Building Service Centre (BSC) is responsible for rectifying any defects reported. I would recommend doing this BEFORE you start the renovation to ensure that your home's foundation is good, and to prevent the "blaming game" between BSC and your ID/contractor. If you're doing this yourself, bring along some coloured tapes and markers to mark out the defects. If you're engaging a professional checker, make sure to book them early as their slots are always full.
