So… 2NE1 is performing in Singapore on the exact day of my birthday. I don’t usually spend money on concerts, but since it will be a special day for yours truly, I decided to consider it for just one moment.

The price tag on that one night of yelling old k-pop tunes would set me back $198. As someone who rents on a salary that’s not even 5k/mth… that’s really a lot of money. So to me— yes, concerts are a waste of money.

If you’re like every other Singaporean out there still living with your parents. Well, you do have the luxury to purchase concert tickets. I think they’re very much worth it if you have extra $$ to spend each month for entertainment. It’s a relatively nice experience to attend a concert.

But budgeting for yourself SHOULD take priority rather than being able to see your favourite idols or singers on stage for that short 2-3 hours. Especially if you're still a student and don't have the luxury of getting an allowance from your parents! (Congrats if you’re attending concerts on your parents’ dime though!)

You can still support your favourite artists in other small ways that are less costly, like streaming their music, buying an album, etc.

It just doesn't make sense to me to have to spend $100-$200 just to stand in a crowded place, squashed by so many other fans. There's the risk of heatstroke, crowd crush, and I think most people get annoyed by the phones/banners that might block your view.

Don't even get me started on the hassle you have to go through to even purchase the tickets. Queuing overnight, using multiple devices just to get your tickets, dealing with scalpers... I never got the need to queue for things. Having a broke girl mindset really helps you grow your savings FR.

Here's how my broke girl mindset works:

1. If you really want it, chew on it.

2. If you decide to purchase it, don't rush to get it. If it's sold out/out of stock, that's a sign that it's not meant for you.

3. Move on. Only purchase it if it stays in your mind constantly in the next few weeks 😗

My sister cried once when she didn't get tickets to her favourite artist's concert... Like I understand that she really loves them, but they don't even know you, so why are you crying for them? 😭

With that, I impart to you a quote I like to live by, “Being DELULU is not the SOLULU.”

But if you have the means to throw $300 on your favs, go ahead!! I’m just spitting the fax that for the broke girls, your NEEDS should come before your wants.
