Stretch marks are formed when the middle layer of skin is stretched and breaks. This is very common and happens in about 90% of all pregnancies. Usually the last trimester is when you start to see them developing. Genetics play a huge role as well as weight gain with developing stretch marks.

I started noticing stretch marks forming on my inner thighs and lower stomach at around 7 1/2 months pregnant. They were so dark too! The truth is there is no actual prevention of stretch marks. Only thing that helps is making sure you stay hydrated and keep the skin hydrated for the remainder of your pregnancy.

The first sign of them forming is itchiness! And yes it’s sooooooooo itchy! I kept a bottle of lotion next to my bed and would apply it constantly😮‍💨

Luckily my marks didn’t get worse after delivering my daughter. They took about a good year to fully lighten up. I only notice them if I get a good tan but other than that they’re barely there. Keep in mind they form from the rapid change of your body, and let’s face it babies grow fast the last few months.

I have heard in severe cases you can try micro needling or see a dermatologist to help with fading the appearance of the stretch marks.
