14 gown studios.. so what’s good? Part 1

Would not recommend: Bqueens, The Proposal, Alisha and Lace

1. The Gown Connoisseur

Price: 5/5

Style + Variety: 4/5

Service: 4/5

- Phototaking allowed

✅ No hardsell and stressful decisive rates, super affordable (<$800)

✅ Staff is friendly, nice personal fitting room, free drinks!!! I probably tried on around 12-15 gowns

✅ location was super inconvenient but they provide free drop off and pick up (they have since moved but still far to me)

❌ While staff is friendly, I felt that she didn’t value add or helped me understand what suit me and what didn’t suit me better. She merely brought dresses in based on what I said I liked/disliked. But at this early stage of the fitting, I was very lost and could do with some professional help tbh.

Overall: WOULD RECOMMEND, especially for those on a budget. I feel that I would have been able to find a dress if I already knew what I like + suits me.

2. Bqueens

Price: 5/5

Style + Variety: 2/5

Service: 2/5

- Phototaking allowed

✅ Affordable if you are looking for many gown package

✅ Convenient if you want to rent mom’s gown too

❌ Style feels quite old fashioned and had too many things going on. Many gowns had corset lace back which I find quite cheap looking.

❌ changing room was very sus (like just a small corner carved out) though the dressing room mirror was fancy

❌ the staff allowed me to try alot of gowns but didn’t really try to understand what I like. She basically tried to impose onto me and low key gaslight me into trying dresses (i specifically said i didnt like the look of gown 1, but she kinda forced me to try it on and started raving about how good it looked…. Like eww no)

Overall: would NOT recommend

3. Alerisa

Price: 3/5

Style + variety: 4/5

Service: 3/5

- no decisive rate

✅ haven for modern minimalist bride. Not as much variety but LOVE THE STYLE.

✅ Most comfortable dress I’ve tried on

✅ No decisive rate, no additional cost to try on 2nd time

❌ stylist was okay, not very warm or welcoming, did not learn much about what suit me or not

Overall: 10/10 WOULD RECOMMEND if you are looking for a modern chic minimalist dress. And definitely the one if you prioritise comfort. The pearl straps are SO GORGEOUS!!!!

4. The Proposal Bridal

Price: 1/5

Style + variety: 4/5

Service: 2/5

- decisive rate -$1000

✅ wide range of designer gowns (Galia lahav, Lee Petra Gebrenau, Kim Kassas, Pronovias, Vera Wang.. you name it).

❌ hellah expensive… even after the $1000 decisive rate

❌ can only view the gowns on the tablet

❌ limited try-on, about ~5-6 gowns; stylist didn’t really try to recommend anything or advice on what’s good…. More of a just try what you want and move on

Overall: Go only if you are dang rich lol, I think other studios like Truly enamoured and ivory bridal probably more worth it. Proposal prides itself to be the authorised dealer for many designers while other studios are parallel importers…. Whatever that means and if that matters to you.

5. Alisha and Lace

Price: 4/5

Style + Variety: 4/5

Service: 2/5

- no phototaking allowed

✅ wide variety of fancy princess ballgowns / taiwanese vibes gowns

✅ affordable if you take the all in one package

❌ Almost ALL dresses that i picked out from their ig are actually coming soon dresses so staff literally asked me to “just try the fitting” from other dresses instead of looking for the dress I wanted… because by her logic, as long as I like their gown fit, i’ll defo find one I like here. Sorry this doesn’t float with me.

❌ staff feels like salesperson, no personal touch, barely any interest in me as a person whatsoever, just chop chop settle and go… but surprisingly less hardsell than I expected

Overall: would NOT recommend unless you are very into the ballgowns and prefer an all in one package
