**I want to start this post off by saying that this post is about MY breastfeeding journey. I am aware that everyone’s journey is different and people have different experiences!! My hopes in this post is that other mamas can relate to it and not feel alone 💗

I knew from the moment I found out I was pregnant that I wanted to breastfeed!!! I didn’t have much of an understanding on it because my mom was not able to produce enough milk to breastfeed and neither was my grandma. I honestly didn’t even know if I was going to be able to either.

I had seen friends of mine stop breastfeeding because of the mental toll it was weighing on them. I had also seen friends love breastfeeding their babies and feeling such a strong connection with it.

I remember at the hospital trying to get her to latch the first time. I remember praying, “God please be with the both of us”. My lactation consultant had told me, “be patient and remember she’s never done this either. She is learning how to do it right along with you, momma”. That advice was a GAME CHANGER. My daughter and I were figuring this out TOGETHER!

I remember feeling exhausted the first few weeks because I was the only one able to feed her during the night. I was tired. Knowing that I was the sole reason why my daughter was alive fueled a fire inside of me. How precious of a gift knowing that a women’s body can keep her child ALIVE!! When I realized that, my mindset shifted. I was enjoying those middle of the night feedings. I became excited knowing that my body was giving my baby LIFE!!

I had incredible resources in friends who knew a lot about breastfeeding. They were patient, eager to give advice, and were extremely helpful. I am forever grateful for their support.

I fell in love with breastfeeding my daughter. Was it hard? Exhausting? Mentally challenging? ABSOLUTELY, it was!!! By far, one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. What helped me get through that mental challenge was the thought that “This is just temporary. You will not breastfeed forever. There will come a day where she won’t need that from you anymore. Soak up the season of it”.

I am ALL about doing what is best for you to be the best momma that you can be. I fully believe that. Personally, I didn’t want to stop breastfeeding. I knew it would be harder for me mentally to stop breastfeeding than it would be to continue doing it. My daughter and I are 8 months into our breastfeeding journey and the days just keep getting sweeter.

If you are in the season of breastfeeding your precious gift from above, I encourage you to reach out. Reach out to family, friends, lactation consultants. Reach out— you can even message me!! Don’t allow yourself to close up and keep your struggles within. Everything you are feeling is NORMAL. The negative the thoughts will be there. The hard days and nights will be there, BUT you are NOT alone, momma!!

Comment below any questions you might have— I would love to help you! I would also love for other mommas to comment the best advice you were given regarding breastfeeding! Let’s create a space for other mommas to feel loved and supported 🤍🤍
