2 years in jc may seem like a long time but it really flew by in a blink of an eye 🥲 here are the things i would still do and change if i could redo my 2 years in jc !

things i would do 🎀

1. participate in school activities 🎟️

be it competitions or annual school events or orientation, sign up and participate in them or simply just attend!! even if it is just a mandatory national day concert, dont skip it and go for it !! it might seem boring or lame but these activities are the ones that you actually get to mingle with your friends and teachers and spend time together outside of studying ! they may seem like a waste of time in the present but looking back after graduation, these are the things i missed most. these events are also the ones that truly allow you to experience and be a part of the school spirit, something i really enjoyed, coming from a neighbourhood school with no school spirit 😔🤚🏼not only that, these events are also the ones that allow you to make new friendships across the cohort and with your juniors/ seniors. they allow you to socialise and at the same time, learn to work with different people (very important skills) yes, one of the main benefits of participating in these events is the line in your portfolio but they truly bring you more benefits than that.

2. study with and without friends 📚

after all, jc is jc, studying is unavoidable 🥲 but…. find out which study method works best for u! i realised after awhile that studying with friends made me less productive so i ended up studying alone more instead. with that being said, i still really did enjoy the after school study sessions with my friends! as much as i prefer studying alone, studying with friends allowed me to easily ask for help/ correct my misconceptions which made studying a lot easier! (these also made up some of my core memories in jc; studying together and delivering food to share in the evening) nearing As, i ended up going out to study with only 1 friend which made the nonstop studying more enjoyable without making the study session too unproductive! soo what i would continue doing is to study alone and also study with friends occasionally to make studying more enjoyable (it also serves as a catch up session and its always fun to go grab a meal together afterwards hehe)

things i would change 🚨

1. not spending more time with friends 😔

as someone who gave up her social life during jc, i really regret not making the effort to forge deeper friendships with those around me. my class was an international class and my closest friend in jc is no longer in singapore so i do fomo a lil when i see my schoolmates hanging out with their friends from jc during this long 8 month break. what i would do differently is to make the effort to forge stronger friendships with friends i made through various school events instead of being so focused on academics and my other commitment which leads me to…

2. not committing to a leadership position 🙅🏻‍♀️

dont get me wrong, my leadership position provided me with lots of opportunities, experience and skills (and also a good portfolio) which i am very grateful for but, the commitment was too much. this lead to me focusing a lot of my time on it which i feel, if i spent the time on other things like studying and spending time with friends, i would have enjoyed my jc journey more. maybe it was just my cca (student led) that had such a big commitment, but if i could redo jc again, i would pick a position with lower commitment/ take up more short term commitments that are event basis.

my time in jc is truly one that i enjoyed ! with that being said HAHAH jc is something i am grateful to have gone through but it isnt something i would want to go through again 😅 my jc life is a bittersweet one and regardless of everything, it is a journey that i will keep close to my heart! ❤️‍🔥

if youre in jc/ entering jc, the point i want to bring across is, please please dont be lazy and make time for things apart from just studying!! yes studying is important, but it isnt everything. at the end of the 2 years, you wont remember much about what you have studied but u will definitely remember and look back on the fun times & experiences you had in jc 🤍
