1️⃣ Addiction Aquatic Development

One of my go-to places for fresh seafood in Taipei. Although the price point may not exactly be super cheap, but they do serve up quality seafood! Most of the seafood are also live and freshly made to order!

Even though they have different restaurant areas, I mostly tried Zhu Hai which is the restaurant on the second floor that focuses on a variety of cooking methods for your seafood like steamed, grilled, boiled etc.

You start of selecting the seafood you want to eat from a fridge and the staff will recommend cooking methods for the ingredients and you can choose which one you’d prefer!

I had dishes like the Sashimi platter which comes with thick pieces of fish and shellfish that i never tried before but tasted so nice and sweet!

For the Grilled dishes the abalone flesh was plump, and the innards were actually super savoury and not too jelak or gamey, which is a sign that it is very fresh, it comes with a salad to cleanse your palette as well! The prawns was also very big, sweet and fresh as well.

The Steamed dishes here are also spectacular, the Scallop has this sweet savoury sauce that goes with the glass noodle and the scallop was thinly sliced and fresh as well. The steamed Snow crab here was also very succulent and meat is soft and sweet, it didn’t need much support from a sauce and shines well on it’s own.

We ended off the meal with a hotpot that comes with an entire tray of seafood from whole crabs with roe to sliced fish, prawns, oysters, scallops and vegetables. It starts off as a simple broth and you just add the ingredients in, which eventually becomes a very rich pot of soup.

In essence, the seafood here definitely wont disappoint you in terms of freshness, quality and taste! One thing to note though is they only accept cash payment so prepare some cash in advance!

2️⃣ 新店北鴨鴨肉羹

Stumbled onto this place after wanting to find a place to eat after hiking in Xindian! As the name suggests it sells duck dishes ranging from soup, noodles and rice.

I had the Duck Thick Soup (NT$80/S$3.40 ) and Duck Rice (NT$45/S$1.70) here.

The Duck Thick Soup is a starchy soup whose consistency I would liken to the Shark Fin’s soup you see in Pasar Malams. It has this garlicky taste to it and it came with generous servings of bamboo shoots and duck slices. It was a savoury soup with a lot of flavour to it! You can choose to add vinegar and other condiments as well to your liking.

Their Duck Rice here was superb as it came with alot of braised duck slices topped with shallots and sprinkled with duck oil, which made it extremely fragrant and delicious, with every bite being a flavour explosion in your mouth!

Although it is a bit far away from the city centre but if you do visit the popular spots in Xindian, do check it out!

3️⃣ Coco Brownies

The stores focus on brownies (evidently from its name), and they do have alot of different unique flavours! For Halloween, they even came up with limited edition flavours for you to get. You can get a box of 6/9 of you can get them individually in a plastic wrapping. You can keep these for 2 days or 4 if you refrigerate it!

I got 4 different flavours here:

The Original (NT$60/S$2.55), Choco Chips (NT$70/S$2.98), Walnut (NT$75/$3.19) and Caramel & Seasalt (NT$70/S$2.98)!

The base of the brownies are the same, with thick chocolatey flavours and the batter is more on the denser side here. I did like the crunch from the chocolate crisp on the Choco Chips flavour and the saltiness which contrasted the caramel in the Caramel & Seasalt flavour here!

4️⃣ 朝日夫婦

Stumbled on this place after walking around Tamsui Pier under the sweltering sun for an hour. They serve Kakigori, which is Japanese Shaved Ice. There is a minimum order of one item per person and each Kakigori bowl costs around NT$200-NT$250 (S$8.50-S$10.65), so it might not be the cheapest thing but definitely very worth it.

I had the Cherry Kakigori (NT$250/S$10.65) and it came drenched with cherry syrup and topped with cream and a sugar biscuit. At first I was worried the flavouring might be too artificial but it was actually quite fresh and fruity.

Just when I thought that was it, when I reached the middle, it was filled with ingredients like granola bits and dried fruits which gave the dish abit of crunch which I liked, different flavours also have different fillings on the inside as well which is quite interesting. It was also quite a big bowl for someone to finish as well.

If you are at Tamsui visiting the multiple tourists sites here and want a respite from the heat with a cooling dessert, do check this place out!
