estrogen & histamine have a (I like to call it) “toxic relationship” 🫠

estrogen increases histamine & histamine increases estrogen 🔄 (which is a viscous cycle potentially making your hormone imbalances wayyy worse)

Aka estrogen dominance where estrogen > progesterone & symptoms include:

irregular periods

irritability

mood swings

weight struggles

acne

bloating

abnormal digestive issues

Alsooo having too high of histamine comes with its own fun set of problems including:

headaches

fatigue

brain fog

skin rash

hives

painful menstrual cramps

food intolerances

gut issues like bloating, pain, and diarrhea

symptoms may worsen around where estrogen is highest like ovulation & luteal! If you ever get “period flu” definitely see an immunologist for histamine testing!

ALSO gut infections or overgrowths of certain bacteria can lead to increased histamine release + decreased ability to metabolize estrogen which leads to estrogen dominance 🥲

So… WHAT can you do:

Experiment w your lifestyle & see if making any of these changes helps —

Increase fiber intake: removes access estrogen (20-35g recommended daily)

Consider reducing high histamine foods: avocado, fermented food, hard cheeses, vinegar, & triggers like cocoa, citrus, tomatoes (see if you feel any better & if not add them back in!)

Prioritize vitamin B6: chicken, beef liver, fish

Reduce Alcohol: high in histamine + crashes hormones

Reduce Stress: a given 🥹

Prioritize vitamin C: eat yo 🍊🥝🫐🍒

Nettle tea: contains quercetin which stabilizes histamine releasing cells

histamine is something to look into if you’ve been dealing w hormone imbalances or gut issues & can’t figure out why!
