Hummus is such a delicious and nutritious spread. It is usually made from cooked chickpeas that are blended. I love adding it to bowls for lunch, spreading on a sandwich, eating as a dip with crackers or carrots, and more! It is really versatile and can enhance a variety of dishes. In general, chickpeas are packed with protein, fiber, and minerals.
Store bought hummus is often made with inflammatory oils and unnecessary ingredients. The taste is also extremely different, in my opinion. I always prefer to make my own but if I'm buying one, it is usually Ithaca Hummus because of their quality and ingredients.
To make your own, you need:
1 can chickpeas
Juice of 1 large lemon
2-3 cloves of garlic
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp ground cumin
Salt and pepper to taste
3-4 tbsp filtered water
Optional:
Fresh parsley
Red pepper flakes
Steps:
Add all ingredients to a blender or food processor.
Add water as needed to reach your desired consistency.
This is the perfect addition to any gathering or your weekend meal prep! Store in an airtight container in the fridge up to 4 days. :)
