The Lightwood by Mues Cafe: Is it overrated?

While looking for a cafe within close vicinity to the JB customs, I chanced upon The Lightwood by Mues Cafe which was a 15 minutes drive away. The cafe received pretty good reviews online and on Lemon8 so I was really excited to check it out.

📍 Location

Located at the basement floor of an old residential building, it was pretty easy to navigate and find it. However, there wasn’t really anything around that area so you probably have to drive to somewhere else after.

✨Ambience

- Stepping into the cafe, we were greeted by the friendly stuff

- Had a Scandinavian-style interior: glass sunroof for natural sunlight, lush greenery and comforting colors

- Instagram-worthy and definitely very aesthetic!

🥯Food:

- Iced Matcha (3/5)

As a non matcha lover, this tasted pretty average as compared to those that I’ve tried. It had a strong matcha flavor with a touch of bitterness with a pleasant ending.

- Iced Chocolate (2/5)

This was quite disappointing cause it tasted like milk that was mixed with coco crunch but at least it wasn’t too sweet.

- Iced Latte (5/5)

Must try drink! 💯 It was sooo good that my friend got another glass of it.

- Dill Aioli Salmon (2/5)

This was so disappointing because it looked so delicious! The salmon was really fishy and it kinda tasted like frozen salmon. Scrambled eggs was something you could find at MCDs. It was overcooked and didn’t have much flavor to it. The Sourdough was pretty good though, really soft and fluffy.

- Al Funghi Risotto (3/5)

Firstly, I would like to say that we were all shocked when we received this dish because it looked nothing like the photo. It looked so unappetizing! However, we decided to give it a go and we were pleasantly surprised by the the flavors. As compared to its appearance, it was savory though it was a little dry. My friend didn’t like the texture of it too but we thought it was fine.

- Chicken Fajita Quesadilla (3/5)

This tasted pretty average like those wraps u could probably find in 7-eleven. Nevertheless, it was pretty flavorful.

💭Thoughts:

In all honesty, I’d probably give this cafe a miss if you’re looking for a nice cafe with good food. However, if you’re looking for a cafe with beautiful aesthetic to just relax and chill, this is the cafe for you!!! Great interior and exterior for you to take ig-photos with your friends.
