Idk about you but I have many friends who complain about gaining weight after CNY gatherings all thanks to the huge amt of unseen calories in CNY SNACKS!!! 😩😩😩 These snacks are literally soooo tiny that we keep reaching for more & before we know it… we’ve eaten tons of calories. 😂
For those wondering how to survive CNY without all the aftermath of snacking like weight gain, pimples from eating oily snacks, & just overall health, here’s a guide of which snacks to reach out for during your CNY gatherings! 🥰
🌟 APPROVED CNY SNACKS 🌟
1. Kueh Bangkit
This is actually one of my fav CNY snacks! It’s only 23 calories per piece, akin to 1/3 pineapple tart. 5 pieces of this melt-in-the-mouth cookie wouldn’t be a problem 👌🏻
2. Prawn Roll
Each roll is about 23 calories, but bc it’s deep fried, it’s higher in (saturated) fats. Still a rly good snack with calcium & protein from the savoury shrimps. ☺️
3. Mandarin Orange
I mean… it’s a fruit. 😂 Definitely healthy but how many of this can we eat? If your hands & mouth are itchy, reach out for an orange instead of a huge tub of pineapple tarts!!
4. Nuts
Packed full of good fats, protein, & fibre! Choose almonds & peanuts, skip the dried fruits which usually contain a lot of sugar. Cashews are good too but higher in fats so keep consumption to a small amount. 👍🏻
5. Honeycomb Biscuits
I rly love this sweet & buttery cookie & each of them are about 45 calories! Less than love letters & pineapple tarts. However it’s high in sugar so I will recommend limiting yourself to 1 or 2 pieces! ☺️
❌ SNACKS TO AVOID ❌
1. Pineapple Tarts
The CNY snack everyone loves… unfortunately, each piece is about 93 calories… and who’s rly going to stop at one? 😂 5 of these buttery goodness racks up close to 500 calories alr… I shudder thinking about it. 😩 Choose to buy pineapple tarts that are lower in sugar or simply make your own!
2. Cashew Cookies
Unfortunately I rly love cashew cookies but they’re about 64 calories per piece. Quite ok but they are also super small. Instead of eating this I’ll recommend grabbing some cashew nuts instead. 😂
3. Bak Kwa
No explanation needed we all know bak kwa is the worst CNY snack ever. 😂😂😂 But did you know that one piece is a whopping 230 calories?? & 25g of sugar??? But ofc, it’s only once a year that we eat bak kwa, so def indulge in half a slice or one slice! Just rmb not to eat mindlessly. 👍🏻
4. Chocolatey Snacks
Aside from traditional snacks, some chocolatey modern snacks are also becoming popular. Here I have an example of nutella kapet which is about 100 calories per piece. It’s sooo indulgent & good but def a huge calorie bomb. 🍫
5. Fried Crab Stick
Another one of my favourite, but it’s about 180 calories per serving of 100g. Opt for those that are air fried instead of deep fried! 🦀
💬 Although CNY is truly once a year & it’s definitely time to indulge a little in our favourite CNY snacks, but to avoid dealing with all the aftermath, it’s important to still exercise self restraint & watch your food intake! Avoid mindless eating when you’re feeling bored. You can grab a bottle of iced plain water to drink when your mouth feels a little itchy. 😂😂
