It’s my first time traveling to Malacca, and if you're also looking for a relaxing trip to soak up the local culture, this post is for you!🫵
I arrived the night before and self-drove 🚘 from JB to Malacca. We had supper in JB (check out part 2 for details on that), and the drive took about 3-4 hours depending on traffic.
✨DAY ONE✨
Picked up some takeaway breakfast to our Airbnb since we had a late night and needed more rest before starting our day.
📍 Stroll along Melaka River
Enjoyed a leisurely walk to admire the colorful buildings. I also noticed a few travelers taking photos, as it was quite empty during the day!
📍 Dutch Square, Stadthuys, Church of St. Francis Xavier
These are must-see landmarks in Malacca. Although there's not much to do beyond visiting them, you can't say you've been to Malacca without checking them out! If you don’t mind climbing stairs, you can also visit A Famosa and St. Paul Church (I skipped these due to the rain).
Had lunch here with a unique antique ambiance, perfect for OOTD photos! The food was great, and the staff were super friendly.
📍 Jonker Walk
Strolled around Jonker Walk, visited Mamee House (where you can design your own cup noodles), and explored San Shu Gong for souvenirs. There are also other interesting stalls like the Baba & Nyonya Museum and kebaya rental shops.
Stopped for a tea break to escape the intense heat after the rain. The cafe now features both ducks and birds (formerly separate cafes). You can request specific birds or ducks for photos!
Dinner here was a mix of hits and misses. The pasta was just okay, but the fried rice was excellent. There’s also live music in the evenings from 9:30 pm to 12:30 am. The drinks are quite strong compared to SG bars, so be prepared! 🍻 Make a reservation via WhatsApp, as it gets crowded.
✨DAY TWO✨
Headed here for breakfast. Arrive early to avoid long queues! The food was fantastic and definitely worth a try in Malacca.
📍 Aeon Mall
With the weather being so hot, we visited this large mall to cool down. It has three levels, but there weren’t many shopping options.
📍 Chagee
Craved a drink and couldn’t miss Chagee while in Malaysia. The queue was long—over an hour! After ordering, we waited a bit before moving on to the next location.
Tried to visit this cafe but found it full. The first floor is for huskies, and the second for shibas. Reservations are a must, which I didn’t know beforehand. Since it was full, we went back to Chagee to wait for our drinks.
📍 Tiong Hwa Hainan Chicken Rice
Had lunch here on a local recommendation. The chicken rice and chendol were delicious—a must-try in Malacca!
📍 Sing Family Karaoke @ Melaka
Went for karaoke with a group of six and got a VIP room, which was spacious. The mic system wasn’t the best, but for the price, it was fine! 🎤
📍 Jonker Street Night Market
The market was bustling, so keep an eye on your kids. Plenty of food options including laksa, seafood, and the TikTok-famous minipot bubble tea (I tried it, and it tasted like Chagee’s white peach oolong milk tea without the milk).
For dinner, you can’t miss trying Peranakan cuisine. Be prepared for a wait if you haven’t made a reservation. The Assam Fish and Kueh Pie Tee were excellent, and the Blue Pea Tea was refreshing and not too sweet.
✨DAY THREE✨
Stopped here for breakfast before heading back to JB. This place comes highly recommended, and the kaya butter toast was crispy and delicious. Overall, the food was surprisingly good!
Before returning to SG, we visited an Alpaca and Capybara cafe in JB (details in part 2). It was a great way to wrap up our trip!
Hope this guide helps you on your Malacca adventure!
