This is the one thing I did in Shanghai

Sadly I didn’t have much time in Shanghai (literally was at a trade show everyday) but since I had like 4 hours this morning before heading back to SG, I decided to try this shop that I saw while searching for things to do in Shanghai (I was too optimistic about how much free time I could get 😂)

寄畅興·百年蟹黄面 is a shop that specialises in crab dishes, though it was their desserts that initially caught my eye! So obviously I had to try a crab dish and a dessert - I got the crab meat and roe xiao long bao and their rose lychee jelly dessert.

While I initially was more excited for the dessert, I felt the XLB was better. It’s filled with crab meat and roe, and was tasty enough that I don’t think you’ll need the vinegar, definitely something fans of crab will enjoy. The dessert wasn’t too sweet, which was good, but it didn’t really taste like lychee or rose either. It looks nice but I was left wondering if I should have ordered a different dessert!

Overall, it’s still worth coming here for the crab dishes. I’m a bit sad I didn’t have stomach space to try the crab noodles cause those looked really good online. And FYI, for some reason my Alipay failed here - got a message saying my credit cards linked were not supported and asked to add a bank card. So it might be better to take some cash if you are visiting. They also have a few shops btw! I went to the Nanjing Road branch (empty at 10am when it opens) but now I realise that they have a branch at The Bund and I think the view there would be better 😂
