I believe I have the right to say that I could tell what good army stew is as my hometown was the birth of that dish in Korea. I’ve tried several places…but I got to say there aren’t much places here that I felt that matched my expectations.
So, with my chef friend, we made a pretty authentic Army Stew just with ingredients you can find in supermarkets in Singapore. Let me show you how to make it!
Army Stew(부대찌개)

Ingredients
> kimchi
> sausage
> spam
> tofu
> ricecakes
> leeks
> green & red chili
> bone broth
Sauce
> Bean Paste (doenjang)
> Gochugaru (red chili powder)
> Minced Garlic
> Soy Sauce
> Sugar
> Water
Step 1:
Cut the chili, spam(thin slices), sausage, and leeks.
Step 2: Sauce
Put half tbsp of doenjang(bean paste), 4 spoons of Gochugaru , 2 tbsp of minced garlic, 2 tbsp of soy sauce, 1/2 tbsp of sugar, and half soju cup of water. It should look like a paste!
Step 3: Setting the ingredients
Place the 1/2 cup of kimchi in the middle, and surround the kimchi with rice cakes, the meats (pork belly, ground beef, sausages, and spam). Then place tofu, bake beans, enoki mushroom, and then put the sauce on top and then fill the pot with bone broth soup.
Step 4: Cook
Boil the army stew and cook until the meat is not red and put on top the leeks and chilis. Then place the ramyeon(please place it in at the end, if you don’t it’s going to be super soggy).
Step 5:
Eat and Enjoy!
I’m serious, this was darn good. Please don’t put the ramyeon before you cook. Please please put it at the end. Trust me, you’ll thank me.
