Moving On….

My review on... working in a popular to be high-stressed consulting environment

🤧Some days, you doubt yourself because you don’t know what you’re doing is what you’re supposed to be doing and your boss doesn’t seem to know what you’re supposed to be doing since he still can’t figure out what he’s supposed to be doing.

🤧Some days, you feel like whatever they pay you for is not worth the stress that you encounter everyday.

🤧Some days, you accidentally burn yourself out and find yourself crying in front of your laptop.

🤧 Some days, you find yourself being questioned about quality by 10+ management level people from client side bcoz u solved “the fire 🔥” that u didn’t cause

🤧 Some days, you find yourself trembling voices coz you need to present your team actions to the executives that you never plan to talk to

🤧Some days, you find yourself pulled into meetings and sitting in calls until the end, you can’t figure out what is going on.

🤧Some days, you find yourself fighting with your analyst who is gathering requirements from you, instead of the user

🤧Some days, you find yourself replying to email loops and threads created by certain clueless people just for the sake of logging.

Things can be this bad in those well known high stress consulting environments.

🫥For someone who wants to have a clear direction and support, it is really the entirely opposite spectrum.

⏰⏰⏰ But after a while looking back how far you’ve come, you will also notice that

🫶There are so many beautiful friendships bounded so strong by trauma in such a short time

🫶There are so many people willing to help you and lift you up

🫶There are so many laughters and jokes together with swearings

🫶 There are so many reasons to love about what you do

🫶There are so many people who recognise you for your efforts and willing to refer or recruit you into their teams or company

🫶There are so many meaningful milestones

🫶🫶Most importantly, there’re so many skills you picked up along the way and you will find yourself totally grown to be different from what you used to be.

📝From a girl who is always scared to speak up and raise issues, I become so confident that sometimes I don’t even want to hear myself 🤣

📝From a girl who is always scared to ask for help, I become so outspoken.

📝From a girl who is always eager to be perfect, I can let go of a lot of things

📝From a girl that burns herself out and suffer silently, I become clear of my boundaries and say No

📝From a girl that does not want to text in a group chats with the entire department of 30+ people, I become someone doing announcements in group chats with 100+ people.

📝From a girl that couldn’t sleep for 3 days because she was tasked to do a tech stack she is not familiar with, I become a brave lady who is willing to pick up whatever is thrown towards

📝From a girl who does not like the small talk in lunch, I become quite good at listening and engaging in big group social settings

📝From a girl who does not want to talk to strangers, I become so much presentable to random strangers regarding random things

📝From a girl who is so scared to state her opinion on her subject of expertise, I get no anxiety for being randomly pulled into meetings or doing adhoc presentations.

📍Looking back the journey, I am proud of how far I have come and the changes in me.

📌It’s not for everyone and definitely it is not a healthy environment for settling down. But it is indeed a very good stimulus for fastest growth possible.

📝And if you really are good, your reputation speaks for itself and even if your management has no idea how good you are, your reputation and credibility will help create opportunities for you along the way in this environment.

🫶🫶🫶At the end of the day, it’s your peers that help you grow and move up, not your management.

Just do your best and it’s time when it’s time. Your reputation speaks for itself and even if the management does not know your worth, there are people eyeing on you and wishing you are on their team. 🥰
