Know a shift worker? Here are some tips 👇🏻

If you know a shift worker (regardless whether she/he is your partner or friend), here are some tips for you on how to be the understanding and considerate one 😜

1️⃣ OUR SCHEDULE ARE BUILT DIFFERENTLY

- Unlike #My9to5 , we work odd working hours and shift work which means your night =/= my night and we may have different bed times too. BUT that doesn’t mean you cant be our friend/partner!

- GOLDEN RULE: Understand that your free time could be our working hours. 🥲 Which means you got to expect slower replies, us not being able to be there for you (WE RLLY WANT TO BE THERE TOO 😭) and dates could be as late as supper/breakfast timings which you might have to sacrifice your sleep if you are not a night owl/early bird.

2️⃣ BE UNDERSTANDING ABOUT OUR OFF DAYS

- As much as we would love to go out with you during our off days, sometimes we may just want to sleep in (especially if that week shifts are crazy - the hours & the work that they deal with (as shift workers, we deal with more unexpected work situations on a daily basis))

- For ladies, dont be sad/envious if you see other couples going out on nice dates over weekends/PH!!! (as girls, i know we might compare our relationships with what we see on social media). Talk to your shift-worker partner in advance if you are craving for a nice date during their next off day. (I think it’s pretty hard for us to do impromptu dates, sadly.)

- GOLDEN RULE: Communication is key so if you want us to devote and reserve our precious & random off day for you, let us know early! 😉

3️⃣ APPRECIATE EACH OTHER EFFORTS IN MAKING TIME:

- I think one of the most basic rules of relationship/friendship is being appreciative. Just like how you sacrifice your unusual timings for your shift worker partner/friend, we would want to feel appreciated when we sacrifice our rest time for you too!

- Most office workers have a fixed timing (excluding OverTime) and if you are lucky, you could leave office on time and have your me-time after BUT for shift workers, we might have PM shifts to AM shifts transition where in less than 10 hours, we would be back to our workplace! 😢

- So instead of feeling sad about how our schedules clash, appreciate the quality time spent when we meet and make a blast out of it!!! 😜

PS: One best thing about dating a shift worker? Sometimes, we get off our jobs as early as late afternoon which means we can manage the house and family while you are away at work 😉
