Rosti is low-key expensive, y'all feel me???
It's just potatoes + oil + sour cream, and it costs $11.40 at Marche.
Yes, you're paying for the labour that goes into the dish, but it's actually not that difficult to recreate at home!
Read on to learn how to cook rosti at home.
Ingredients:
- 1 large potato (or 2 small ones)
- Oil
- Sour cream (you can substitute with non-flavoured greek yoghurt if you want).
Total ingredient cost is approx $0.90!
How to make rosti:
Step 1: Grate the potato and squeeze the shreds dry.
Arms day!!! Try and squeeze it as much as possible - the dryer it is, the easier it will be to cook it.
Step 2: Add 0.5 tsp salt, 0.5 tsp pepper, and 0.5 tbsp oil to the shredded potato. Mix and lay it flat in your pan. Make sure you're starting with a hot, well-oiled pan so that the potatoes don't stick, and let it cook till the bottom is brown and crispy.
Cooking time may be 5-10 min, depending on how thick your pancake is.
Step 3: Put a plate on top of the pan and flip both over, so that the rosti lands on the plate.
Step 4: Oil the pan again with 1 tsp oil, and slide the rosti back in to cook the other side. Cook until it's brown.
Step 5: Transfer to a plate, top with sour cream and serve!
