I don’t know about you but I definitely notice that I crave different types of foods at different times of the year. In the summer I can’t get enough of cucumbers, tomatoes, and berries and in the fall/winter I want roasted carrots, brussels, and apples. Naturally our bodies want to eat with the season!

This doesn’t mean every single thing you eat needs to be something that is in season locally, but just something to think about. Of course, where you live plays a HUGE role in what is available fresh.

When we eat local produce it is probably picked when it is riper and doesn’t take as long to get from the farm to our mouth. This makes that produce more nutrient dense and have better flavor! The longer it takes, the more nutrients it loses :(

In Michigan we have to get our avocados shipped to use from California, Mexico, etc. It will never be “in season” for us here, but we will of course still be eating them.

These are some of the foods that are in season in the Fall in michigan and many places in the midwest; potatoes, all types of squash, onions, carrots, parsnips, rutabaga, pumpkin, apples, cabbage, cauliflower, leeks, celery, mushrooms, and cranberries.

Sounds kind of like thanksgiving.. right?!

When you shop in season it is usually cheaper. If you want to get it cheapest, hit up your local farms, farmers markets, or even your neighbors with a garden!

This meal was AMAZING yesterday! & I cant wait for thanksgiving
