I have hotpot cravings at least once a week. Usually, I'd head to HDL or BITP, but honestly, it's not sustainable, especially if you're a small eater like myself.

My partner and I stumbled across City Hotpot after a workout at Tanjong Pagar. I was supposed to be on a diet, so we decided to order one portion for him. TL;DR: We ended up ordering a second portion because it was so good!

Soup Base (from $5.99): Most bases are $5.99, with premium bases costing +$1-3 more. You can even get two soup bases for an additional $1.

I've tried:

1. Spicy Sichuan Soup - 8/10. It was not as good as Shu Da Xia, but it is enough to satisfy your mala craving. It comes in three levels; I recommend going for the spiciest if you like that kick from your soup.

2. Prawn Soup - 9/10. It's amazing, but as the soup thickens over time, this base may get a bit overwhelming. But it's really good - the broth was fragrant and rich. Definitely save this for a rainy day.

3. Fish Soup with Milk - 10/10. This soup base is perfect for those who cannot handle spice yet want something light and tasty! I went back here recently with my sister, who is a bigger foodie than myself, and she gave this soup base a perfect score - rating it better than any HDL and BITP soup.

They have several very value-for-money set meals from $24+, and ongoing 1-for-1 deals available. We decided to go à la carte so we could pick the items we actually wanted to eat. Despite the cost being similar to HDL half portions, their portions here are very generous.

You'll also get full access to the sauce bar without having to top up for additional costs. They have some mala beancurd skin and bean sprouts for side dishes and so many ingredients for you to create your sauce!

I recommend purchasing 1-2 items at a time and adding more as you go, as we ordered 2 items too much. Our total cost was about $80 - 2 individual soup bases, 3 pork collars, beancurd rolls, enoki mushrooms, rice, instant noodles, fried chicken, mantou, and 2 drinks.

Overall, I recommend this place if you're ever craving hotpot! The staff were attentive, and the service was excellent! Remember to make a reservation if you're dining during peak hours.
