Steam Deck or build a PC

I bought a steam deck last christmas as a present to myself and I do not regret my decision. I was in between spending the $700 on a steam deck OLED, so I could play steam games at my setup, but not go through the heartache of building my own PC. I could get my brother’s help if I truly wanted to but here is what stopped me.

🌱I’m a casual gamer

I don’t play games as often as I would like and putting the effort into building a PC would not make the return on the effort I put forward. I have a mentally taxing job so I don’t play games after work. Weekend gaming is the only thing I manage and even then I am a reader before a gamer

🌱Building a PC is expensive in comparison

The steam deck is an expensive piece of hardware/ a nice handheld, but it’s not a full blown PC. It could cost $1400 after all the components and the case, I’m sure I could get costs down, but that would probably compromise performance and the whole point of building your PC is for better gaming performance.

🌱space

My office space is small. Getting a PC would be another space hog. PCs can be built in smaller cases of course, but those are ironically even more expensive to build because of custom parts that need to more efficient in a small space. And you need a better cooling system since the casing would be so small. In this case, a gaming handheld is enough for my needs.

A gaming handheld isn't perfect but it works and it's a fun gaming experience.
