These hand rolls are the perfect healthy lunch or girl dinner. I make it even easier by using tinned fish from the pantry. Feel free to swap and sub whatever veg and protein you have on hand. Adding a sauce is also totally valid here! The mackerel was already super flavorful so I skipped this.
Ingredient ideas
Sushi rice: Prepare sushi rice by washing and cooking it according to package instructions. Season it with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt, then let it cool.
Nori sheets: Cut large sheets into halves or quarters.
Proteins: Choose your favorite ingredients like tinned fish (salmon, tuna, or mackerel), tofu, tempeh, or cooked chicken.
Vegetables: avocado, cucumber, carrot, radish sprouts
Condiments: wasabi, soy sauce, spicy mayo, unagi sauce
1. Place a piece of nori on a plate shiny side down. Lightly wet your hands to prevent the rice from sticking. Place some rice on the nori sheet, enough to cover 1/3 of it.
2. Add your desired fillings and sauces, being careful not to overfill the hand roll.
3. Fold the nori into a cone or pinch to form a taco-like roll and enjoy immediately.
