Good evening π8οΈβ£ residents,
We are on a roll back-to-back posting about mental health issues βπΌ Today I want to share another intimate experience of mine dealing with mental illnesses and itβs about taking medication.
Has it worked for me? Personally, yes. I sleep better with Daybigo during the worst year of my life (2019), but I remembered vividly how Lexapro made my life hell with its emotion-numbing effects.
I have tried medications from all types of psychiatric medications out there. It was usually prescribed to me when I was dealing with one particular severe symptoms. For example, Mirtazapine for paranoia and Concerta for inattentive problems.
Bottom line is, if you were prescribed medication, make sure you know what it is for and its negative side effects. Weight gain, sweaty hands and appetite loss are some of the common ones. Lamictal for instance can cause allergies and rashes. I was lucky I didnβt develop any rashes despite the high dose.
Pro-tip when taking medication:
- make sure WHEN to take it (before or after meal)
- donβt skip medication for whatever reason unless youβre being told otherwise by your doctor
- contact your hospital immediately if you happen to develop negative side effects such as vomiting, seizures or panic attacks.
Weβre warriors in our own life story, but even the bravest warrior needs help when sheβs injured in the battlefield π«ΆπΌ
Are you taking any psych meds? π
