BEST ZI CHAR PLACE FOR CNY 🍊✨

I’m no food critic to tell you what is REALLY the best, but I’ve tasted lots of good Zi Char restaurant and this Zi Char place was by far my favourite of all (would even say the best).

Not sure if you could still make reservations for CNY reunion dinner, but it’s definitely one to consider going to this month! Also, I'm not sure if their prices have changed, but I’ll just include the prices that I paid.

Will also include my ratings (out of 5⭐️) for each dish!

🍽️ WHAT WE ORDERED :

✿ Lobster Hokkien Mee ($38.80)

If I’m not wrong, this was a pretty new dish that was introduced to the menu! A must try when you’re here! The lobster was broken into chunks for your convenience; it was really fresh & the consistency of it was perfectly firm. The hokkien mee was also a win in this dish. It wasn’t dry and I just love it when the noodles are perfectly coated in the stock — the overall flavour was PERFECT.

✿ Prawn Paste Fried Chicken ($10)

It’s hard to find the "best" har cheong gai because there are just so many versions of it. I’m always on the lookout for the most flavourful har cheong gai and I’m glad to say I think I've found it. This is definitely at the top of my list of ‘best har cheong gai’! It’s super FLUFFY & CRUNCHY it just blew my mind when I took a bite out of it. It had a burst of aromatic flavour and it was just a war between my family to see who got the last piece ("pai seh piece"). 🤣

✿ Cereal Prawns ($25)

Am I the only one who MUST order cereal prawns whenever I go to a Zi Char restaurant? 🫣 Their prawns were huge, fresh and cooked perfectly! Their cereal was so addictive to munch on.. I could just eat the cereal and nothing else. Need I say more? hehe

✿ Dry Roasted Sotong ($20)

This is also one of their popular dishes! As a squid lover myself, this was really yummy and there’s really nothing to dislike about this dish— which is why I’m giving it 5 stars! It was cripsy, and the sauce made the sotong flavourful overall! 

✿ Hot Plate Beancurd ($9)

I loved how the beancurd tasted really different! It wasn’t the typical egg round tofu that you usually get, but this one was flavourful and cripsy on the outside. The gravy, eggs and minced meat tasted so good all together. 

✿ Sambal Sweet Potato Leaves ($9)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A veggie that I’ll always order at a Zi Char restaurant is always sweet potato leaves! 🫶🏻 I love that it was so soft yet crunchy at the same time! The flavour and spice of the sambal were perfectly balanced too! Nothing can go wrong with a good plate of sweet potato leaves!
