The Lu Rou Fan showdown in Taipei

When it comes to traditional Taiwanese cuisine, one dish that should not be missed is Lu Rou Fan, a savory pork and rice dish that is a staple in Taiwan.

Well, it happens to be our favourite dish too! hahhaha - yes, we gained 3 kgs from our recent travels to taiwan!

So we’ve decided to go on a hunt to find the best ones in Taipei!

Few of the good ones we had in Taipei are:

1️⃣Jin feng 金峰

Jin Feng Lu Rou Fan is located in the Daan district of Taipei, and it's a great place to try Lu Rou Fan if you're looking for a delicious and authentic version of the dish. It's a small and unassuming place, but the food is decent!

2️⃣Formosa Chang 胡须张

Formosa is a chain restaurant that i believe anyone that’ve been to Taipei have seen their store. With it’s unique logo featuring an old bearded man, it’s hard to miss!

The restaurant's name "Formosa" refers to the historical name of Taiwan and it's a reference to the restaurant's focus on traditional Taiwanese cuisine.

IF we were to pick, this restaurant gotta be in our top 3, everything was good so much so we spent over SGD100 buying their Lu Rou packs back to Singapore to share with our families.

3️⃣Tian Tian Li Ximending 天天利美食坊

known for its convenient location and affordable prices, the restaurant has become a go-to spot for locals and tourists alike

What’s different here is the Lu Rou Fan with fried egg (not that it’s all the special but it really elevates what is already a delicious dish on its own)

The runny yolk at the center of the egg added a richness to each bite. When the yolk mixed with the pork, sauce, and rice = explosion of flavors in your mouth.

4️⃣Jin da 今大

This Lu Rou Fan is for people that is with a heavier taste bud.

Saltier & greasier than the rest of the others we tried but they made it up with their delicious pickles to balance it out.

Though i wouldnt recommend if you’re on a tight schedule as this restaurant is a little out of the way in New Taipei City. - took us more than 25mins to get there from Xi Men Ding
