how to crochet fluffy star keychains 🍥💌

i recently had an idea to create fluffy starfish for an ocean themed messenger bag 🪸🌊🦑, & liked it so much that i decided to turn them into keychains! ⭐️

these are perfect if you’re looking for a handmade gift for a friend 🎁💝, & it’ll be sooo cute to have matching ones in a friend group! if you’d like to know how to make your own star keychain, here’s a tutorial~

before you start:

⏰ it takes me about 1.5 hours to make one (embroidering the beads take about 45 mins 😭)

💪 difficulty level: beginner-friendly! (ps! if you’re unsure about how to do certain stitches, just search “how to ____(eg: half double crochet)___ on youtube”!)

🧺 materials:

- milk cotton yarn (any color!)

- fluffy yarn

- crochet hook (I’m using 4.5mm)

- beads (optional): glass beads, pearl 🦪, toho beads

- scissors

- embroidery thread (optional)

- embroidery needle (optional)

once you’ve gotten your items, let’s begin! 🍓

1. make a magic circle ⭕️

- I’m not too sure how to explain this clearly, so a video tutorial on YouTube might help better! but let me try~

- hold yarn between thumb and index finger

- wrap yarn around index and middle finger twice, making sure to form a cross cross

- slide your crochet hook under the outer circle, and pull through the inner circle

- chain 1!

2. make 14 double crochet stitches 🌱

- this creates the centre of your star!

3. slip stitch to close the magic circle

- if done correctly, you shld have a full circle (shown in the pic!)

4. chain ___ stitches 👀

- this depends on how long you want your star arms

- refer to the guide i made! I normally do one short arm (4 chains), two arms with medium length (5/6 chains), one slightly longer arm (7 chains) and one super long arm (9 chains) to create an asymmetrical star

- ofc, if you prefer a symmetrical star ⭐️, just stick to one chain length (maybe 5 chains!)

- if you’d notice the pattern, just decrease the stitches from the back as your chain length decreases~

5. add fluffy yarn along the border ☁️

- I LOOOVE how my stars turned out after adding a fluffy border

- this is achieved by single crochet along the sides!

6. adding beads🍥

- for if you want to add texture + color!

- i mix toho beads & pearls to give more texture~

- ❣️rmbr to reinforce your beads by looping the thread multiple times!

aaand you’re done! turn them into keychains using key rings + jump rings & you’ll be able to hang them anywhere you like 🌱
