AUTHENTIC CHAI IN NYC

i’m an indian-american woman and starbucks’ chai has always felt like such a quiet way of appropriating my culture that most people simply accepted.

however, there are chai cafes around nyc that serve authentic chai the way my mom and the rest of my family (and south asia!) makes chai. The Chai Spot in Little Italy is my favorite place; the indoor feels like my grandma’s house, and the chai is exquisite.

the place holds a lot of cultural capital: not only does it offer authentic chai, but it offers an authentic experience. shoes off policy, south asian snacks, south asian cushions and decorations and clothes… it’s perfect 🤎
