(really bad pun, i know)

I recently went to ASAP & CO (pronounced asap as in, smoke in Malay) for a mother’s day/birthday celebration with my family. My mom found out about it through Facebook and I saw snippets of Tik Tok reviews on it, even bookmarking it way back. We’d reserved a table for four, and the staff were extremely accommodating with our reservations (even though we changed it 5 times…). They advised us to pre-order our meats and so, I went to Tik Tok to read said reviews. The comments sections were filled with every rendition of a bad review possible: “Not worth”, “Overrated and not nice at all”, and of course… the completely unnecessary “Got pork? 😍” comment.

I decided to go ahead with the reservation because, I personally find food reviews to be very subjective.

Having tried it out for myself, and sampling each other’s choices too, we all collectively agreed this was the best steak we’d had thus far. To start us off, they served us with focaccia bread which was decently soft and had a crispy crust, with a vinegar dip (an appropriately light appetiser for the very heft meal we had incoming).

🥩 Picanha | 300g (Underated Cuts) — $48

By no means am I a connoisseur when it comes to steak, but the Picanhas I had was such a perfect mix of fat that melts in the mouth, and tender meat that had a good mix of chew-and-melt. All our meals came with a side: spiced hokkaido corns, roasted potatoes or king oyster mushrooms.

🥩 Brisket | 300g (Underated Cuts) — $28

My parents shared the Brisket, and I tried some as well, and I would definitely recommend this if you want something that’s EVEN MORE tender, but with a little less fat.

🥩 Pure Black | 500g (Porterhouse) — $68

On the other hand, if you really just want the taste of pure, unadulterated MEAT, the Porterhouse my brother got is definitely a contender. I much prefer an abundance of fat and tender meat that doesn’t require much chewing (lol) for my steak, and so, the Porterhouse rly poses the opposite of that. Yummy, nevertheless! But it’d be better appreciated by those who like their steak Medium Rare to Rare.

Food aside, the ambience was nice although my one complaint would be that maybe they took the name ASAP too seriously — you could definitely smell the smoke. In their defence, it’s likely because our table was right in front of the open concept kitchen area.

Having tried ASAP & CO myself, I really feel that the bad comments were unjustified, or at least an inaccurate representation of the steakhouse that may deter people a little too much. There aren’t much #Halal steakhouses to begin with, and so maybe I do feel compelled to show my support —but sincerely, the steaks are good and the menu has a pretty diverse range of considerably affordable to more expensive cuts. I am very content and impressed and I am definitely going back.
