My workplace is at Raffles Place and it’s been 6 mths since I started work. Here are some pros and cons of working in the CBD:

PROS

✨Sick office views!

Whenever I need a breather from work, I’ll just go to the window and look out to admire the view. Actually, the very first time when I went to the office to attend my interview, I was so amazed by the view. You could see the MBS, the singapore flyer, esplanade, the padang and even the merlion. And during F1 season, you get to see AND hear the F1 cars. Our company actually allows staff to come to the office tower on F1 race days on weekends to watch the race.

✨Museums and free concerts!

My office is walking distance away from the ACM and National Gallery. There’s free lunch-time concerts which I’ve attended! Super nice and therapeutic to visit these museums during my lunch break! I loveeee art and thus having these museums so near my workplace is a + for me :)

✨PILATES

There’s a ton of pilates and gym places in the CBD area which makes it super convenient for me to go for classes during my lunch hour. I used to go for pilates classes twice every week and I remembered feeling so good being able to workout on a work day.

CONS

😞Expensive food!!!

Lunch costs at least $10 and up unless you eat at a hawker centre. My office isn’t very near any hawkers except Capitaspring so we rarely go to any other hawker centers.

😞Super crowded

CBD area especially Raffles Place gets super crowded during the morning peak hour, lunch hour, and after work hour after 6pm. It’s literally full of people wherever u go and honestly if you hate crowds, you’re absolutely going to hate the CBD area. Imagine long queues everywhere during lunch:(( I bring my own lunch from home often to avoid the lunch crowd.

Overall, it’s pretty great to work in CBD cause of the wide variety of food options and nice views. However, food is really on the higher side and it gets super crowded during peak hours. Therefore, I’m thankful that my job offers me the flexibility of being able to WFH twice a week, so I only need to go to office 3 days :)

Stay tune to my next post on my WFH set up!
