How to Travel to Cuba!

The country if Cuba holds a lot of stereotypes, especially for Americans. But it’s also known for being beautiful, with pristine beaches, stunning architecture, and kind people.

For Americans, traveling to Cuba is NOT as impossible as many people make it seem. You just need to follow a few additional steps.

First, you need an official reason of travel. Being a “tourist” does not count. There are a dozen different, valid, and official reasons to visit, but as someone who wants to simply travel to Cuba, you should choose: Support for the Cuban people.

This means that, when you are traveling, you will do everything you can to give back to the locals. You will eat at locally-owned restaurants, stay with locals, and donate your time and money.

There are many hotels in Cuba, but if you choose to Support the Cuban People, you can also stay in “casas particulares,” which are privately owned homes rented out to tourists. It’s Cuba’s version of AirBnb.

When you book your flight, you’ll be provided a tourist card from the airline. You NEED to fill it out prior to traveling, or you won’t be allowed into Cuba.

Finally, take out cash at the airport. Many local Cuban businesses do not accept American credit/debit cards, so take out more cash than you think you’ll need!

I absolutely loved my time in Cuba. The history, fun cars, museums, and weather were all beautiful. The drinks were cheap & yummy, and I felt really privileged to see such a wonderful country.
