the prawns of my dreams 🤤

managed to snag a reservation at Hey Kee HK Seafood a while back and finally reunited with salt baked crab! i’ve first tried it in hongkong 10years ago but can hardly find it in sg 🥲 was so glad to see this dish on hey kee’s menu!

super lucky to secure a table because it was PACKED on saturday night! tables don’t turn as quick so reservations recommended ✌🏼

👍🏻 the good:

• food

our favourite dish was the typhoon style live prawns!! it was SO good. the prawns were really juicy and succulent - super duper fresh! even my cousin who don’t eat prawns, couldn’t resist to go for seconds 😂 the crumbs went so well with rice because it was super flavourful. we tried eating it on its own but a bit too salty lol. the roast chicken was really good too! the chicken breast was tender leh!! the vegetables were alright, crabs were okay too. salt baked crab tasted better in my memory but i could be wrong.

• aesthetics

we felt like we were teleported into a hk movie set! 10/10 vibes! 😍

• service

the boss was there when we visited and he personally stop by every table to check on the quality of the food and gather feedback. really nice gesture! oh yes and no service charge!!

🤨 the not-so-good:

• a bit of hardsell for seafood

didn’t really like how a few of their staff kept pushing us to get the larger crabs when we already explain that we can’t finish. kept telling us they don’t have a 1kg crab and asked us to go for 1.8kg. but after multiple back & forth, suddenly they have the 1kg and 1.3kg crabs. 🙂

• long waiting time for plain rice

waited 40minutes for 4 bowls of plain rice.. told us they ran out and the rice’s steaming. so we waited, then told us oh ran out again. this story repeated 🙂 we just wanted rice to go with the typhoon style prawns 🥲

• drinks

the hk milk tea, lemon tea and yuanyang were all pretty mid. we expected a little more since it’s a hk style eatery!

overall, we had a great time at Hey Kee still because of the food and most parts of the service. would definitely head back for their prawns, chicken and to try other dishes too!
