these are the 7 tactics i use to get motivated & get going on those days when i JUST don’t want to!! usually even just one of these will get me going 🫶
1️⃣ 5 MINUTE RULE
(the hardest part of a task is getting started)
1. set a timer for 5 minutes
2. work on the task you've put off
3. after 5 minutes, you can stop (if you want)
90% of the time, the momentum of starting is enough to keep you going.
2️⃣ LIMITS ON LEARNING TIME
(excessive learning becomes procrastination)
Growth: learn -> apply --> learn --> apply
Procrastination: learn --> learn --> learn --> learn
for each hour studying, spend an hour applying
3️⃣ ACTION LEADS TO MOTIVATION
many people think it goes like this:
motivation -> action
when in reality, it's more like this:
small action -> motivation -> more action
4️⃣ 2 MINUTE RULE
if something takes less than 2 minutes, do it now.
don’t let some mundane task gnaw at the back of your mind for weeks!
5️⃣ EAT THE FROG
do the hardest task of the day first
get that weight off
the rest of the day will seem easy in comparison!
6️⃣ REMOVE DIGITAL CLUTTER
being surrounded by digital distractions gives you more excuses to procrastinate
- phone in airplane mode/dnd
- utilize focus modes on phone
- open tabs are relevant to the current task
7️⃣ REMOVE PHYSICAL CLUTTER
a cluttered environment = cluttered mind
before you sit down to work, get your surroundings in order. this will allow you to laser focus on the task at hand!
