Got really tired of a sedentary and stressful 9-5 lifestyle so I’ve been religiously going for weekly classes at Yoga Movement and working my class pass credits for a few months now (pats self on shoulder) and here’s my review of the classes/ studios I’ve been!!
🌺🌺What I like about Yoga Movement🌺🌺
🌺 Structure of each class is very similar across all outlets - making it easy to drop in to any class anywhere. I know of studios where each instructor do different things and people end up booking only certain instructors classes but that’s not the case here!
🌺 Most outlets has quite a number of shower rooms, no queueing up after classes, which is great!
🌺 Towels available at $1 each
🌺 Water cooler available
🌺 not difficult to catch classes at 9-10 class pass credits which is <$25 in cost, quite a fair price IMO!
🌸🌸Review of each class structure🌸🌸
🌸 Basics 🌸
- very slow pace!
- poses are held for longer duration and instructor may explain abit more about the alignments
- which means it’s actually more tiring than flow haha (at least I felt so)
- good for total beginner! Can get used to each movements’ names too
🌸 Slow flow 🌸
- good pace for a total beginner
- poses are mostly quite basic/ variations are provided for diff levels
- I started building my routine by going for weekly hot slow flow, sweated a lot in my first session but by the 4/5th sessions I wasn’t sweating much already, that’s when I challenged myself to power flow
🌸 Power flow 🌸
- first session was quite challenging for me as it felt like everyone knew what they were doing so it was quite stressful. I didn’t know what a lot of the pose names were (half moon / bird of paradise / etc but just kept looking around and copied what others do haha)
- faster pace and repeat more reps of lunges / warriors / vinyasas
- depending on instructors / session, there may be a particular focus of the class eg they might tell you upfront we’ll be attempting ebk2 today etc
- hot power flow might get a bit intense cos it’s really super hot + sweaty and I do get a bit giddy sometimes but I’ll just pace myself and all’s good
- I mostly go for power flow classes now!! It’s a good challenge and super good sweat 🤩
🌸 Elevate 🌸
- there will be a specific skill objective of the class eg inversion/ handstand/ crow pose
- first 40mins is mostly flow based but with more focus on poses that helps with the eventual skill
- last 20mins-ish will be more workshop style where instructor explain the skill pose and everyone gets time to try it out! Sometimes even partnering up to spot one another
- it’s my dream to achieve inversion poses but it’s a long journey and definitely take lots of self practice outside of just attending the class so way to go!
🍀🍀 My thoughts on a yoga routine🍀🍀
🍀 Honestly I super love the stress free and self paced style of yoga classes - unlike skills based activities/ dance classes where there is certain level of stress of having to remember routines/ improve over time, yoga is pretty much OTOT…
🍀 I love that instructors always remind us to give thanks to ourself for showing up etc 🥺
🍀 good sweat and good stretch all the time! Duration of 1 hour is super comfortable as well
